Auto Accidents – Be Prepared

While we hope that you are never involved in an auto accident, we advise everyone to be prepared for the worst. We suggest you do the following:

  • In your vehicle, keep a first aid kit, camera (or your smart phone), proof of Auto Insurance and a flare or orange triangles to place in the road to alert other drivers.
  • Read and know your insurance policy. Make sure you have Uninsured Motorist (UM) coverage and Personal Insurance Protection (PIP).

Auto Accident Checklist

If you are in an automobile accident, we recommend our clients follow these steps:

  • Immediately turn on your hazard lights.
  • Stay calm, check for injuries.
  • Call 911 or police.
  • Move vehicles only if blocking traffic or if you feel unsafe. If you cannot move your vehicle, put out flares or your orange triangles to alert other drivers.
  • Exchange information with the other driver(s). Important: Do NOT discuss the accident until police arrive.
  • Report the accident to police and obtain a copy of the report. DO NOT ADMIT FAULT
  • Record pertinent information (time of day, location, road conditions, etc.), take photos and/or a video, and get witness information.
  • Contact West & West, ASAP.
  • Do not agree to give a recorded statement to anyone, including your own insurance company, without your attorney present.
  • Follow up with appropriate medical providers. Your health is our number one concern.
  • We will make sure you’re as back to “pre-accident” health as possible.
